Collaborating with OMA

OMA is not alone in its role of establishing standards, and recognizes the importance of working with other organizations that perform similar or complementary activities. To assist in this effort, the OMA External Liaison Program works to establish relationships with outside organizations and standards bodies to ensure broad industry participation.

In 2012, the OMA Board made significant effort to identify strategic areas where OMA has a common interest with other organizations. This has resulted in targeted outreach to specific industry bodies with the aim to establish strategic cooperation between OMA and other organizations. The OMA Ambassador Program is designed to identify common areas of work and potential collaboration, which goes beyond the specific technical requirements identified in existing cooperation agreements, memorandum of understandings, and frameworks. In addition, this year OMA has joined oneM2M as a Partner Type 2 allowing OMA to contribute to the success of oneM2M, while continuing its own work on M2M-related specifications.

This work will continue with increased commitment throughout 2013.

Liaison agreements with OMA work in one of three ways:

  • Cooperation Framework (CF) provides a set of guidelines agreed (but not formally signed) by OMA and the external organization.
  • Cooperation Agreement (CA) where there is formal, signed agreement in place between the external organization and OMA.
  • Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is a signed formal agreement between the external organization and OMA.
