Supporting IoT Business Solutionsby OMA | Wednesday, December 14, 2016
IOTEROP SAS – December, 2016
Montpellier Métropole is the center of a unique smart city experimental lab. While the city’s main objective is to control its private network, store and manage data, Montpellier Métropole is also working with Synox to deploy IoT infrastructure based on LoRa technology.
The challenge is to ensure that city functions are not restrained by disparate technologies. While providing a high level of security, IoT infrastructure must be interoperable, open and flexible to a wide range of sensors and heterogeneous objects.
Hélène Roussel, Smart City Project Director at Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole added: “As I work for the city of Montpellier and represent the constituents’ interests, I believe that deploying safe and connected Smart City solutions is imperative to improving services while protecting potentially sensitive data. These solutions must be built around open, secure standards to ensure proper maintenance and facilitate future development efforts.”
The Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) put in place a specific standard for connected objects called OMA Lightweight M2M (LWM2M). The most pertinent and complete open standard for device and service management, the LWM2M is designed for constrained devices over a number of transports and bearers. The LWM2M technology will create interoperable and secure solutions with remote access for existing connected objects and a new generation of smarter devices.
Pierre Brice, IT director at Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole says: “The use of standard solutions for Smart Cities, such as the Open Mobile Alliance Lightweight M2M, in partnership with IoTerop, enable us to ensure the interoperability of our systems, sustain our infrastructures and stimulate innovation.”
“IoTerop provides the LWM2M technology which embeds perfectly with Synox innovative solutions. The combined technologies bring life to smart city usages within Montpellier Métropole territory” said Hatem Oueslati, IoTerop CEO.
